Tuesday, February 24th 10:00am-11:30am
Join us for a Coffee with the Coalition session led by Dr. John Anderson. This Black History Month in-service explores the historical and contemporary role of the Black family as a source of protection, resilience, and prevention in the face of sexual violence. Drawing from Black history, family systems theory, and prevention-focused education, the session examines how historical trauma, racialized sexual violence, and disrupted family structures continue to shape vulnerability, silence, and mistrust of systems today. Designed especially for rural and underserved service providers, this training offers culturally responsive frameworks for engaging families and communities as partners in prevention without pathologizing or blaming them. Participants will gain practical insights and strategies for strengthening education, outreach, and victim services through a family-centered, historically grounded lens aligned with equity and survivor dignity.
